DELSU Loses Lecturer To Typhoid Fever

Delta State University, Abraka on Thursday, was in grieved when news of the death of one of the university lecturers revealed.

The lecturer, Professor Richard Olomo, was reported to have died of strange typhoid fever after close to one year battle with the illness.

It was reliably gathered that Professor Olomo, who was the Head of Department Geography/Regional planning of the University, began his illness after the National University Commission (NUC) accreditation team visited the University in July 2015.

Some weeks after the accreditation exercise ended, he was rushed to the University Health Centre at site 3 for Medication following which he was transferred to the State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) Oghara for further treatment.

It was gathered that some months after his health improved he was discharged. But a week later, the illness took a different turn. This time, it worsened by strangely showing symptoms claimed to be typhoid fever, sources said.

Confirming Olomo’s death, the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Peretemode said the professor died of strange illness, disclosing that all efforts to save him proved abortive.

“We tried our best to save him from the diagnosed typhoid fever to no avail, I think the sickness was strange and not ordinary typhoid fever,” Peretemode said.
