2015 Nov/Dec Exam Released - High Examination Malpractices Recorded

Minna – The National Examinations Council (NECO), has released the results of the November/December 2015 Senior School Certificate Examinations.

Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, disclosed this on Wednesday in Minna while addressing newsmen. He said that a total of 50,060 candidates registered, out of which 47,507 sat for English Language while 47,554 sat for Mathematics.

Garba said that out of the number that sat for English,29,718 representing 62.55 per cent obtained credit pass while 32, 484 that sat for Mathematics representing 68.30% passed at credit level. He said that of the 39,389 candidates that sat for Biology, 17,227 or 43.73 per cent obtained credit pass. For Chemistry, out of 22,284 candidates that sat for the examination, 11,951 representing 53.63 per cent made it at credit level.

The registrar added that out of 22,201 candidates who sat for Physics, 818 or 3.68 per cent passed the subject at credit level, while in Geography, 19, 781 candidates sat for the examination, and 3,851 or 19.46 per cent passed at credit level.

Garba pointed out that performance of candidates in Government indicates that out of 23,497 candidates that wrote the subject, 10,226 or 43.52 per cent made it at credit level. He said that in Economics, 39,406 candidates sat for the examination and 23,991 or 60.88 per cent passed the subject at credit level. “In view of the fact that the examination was for private candidates who were no longer in the school system and looking for one or two credits, the desperation to engage in malpractice was high.

“This led to an increase in the percentage of candidates involved in malpractice, compared to the figure for 2014,” he said.

Garba said that the NECO was devising more ways to reduce malpractice in the examinations in order to counter the various illegal strategies adopted by candidates. He said that malpractice was on the increase, adding that a comparative study showed an increase between 2014 and 2015 in most subjects.

“A comparative analysis of malpractice cases by subject revealed that while 635 cases were recorded in English Language in 2014, 1,075 cases were recorded in 2015. “Also, in Mathematics, 634 cases of malpractice were recorded in 2014 while 1,799 cases were recorded in 2015.

“In Economics, 570 cases of malpractice were recorded in 204, while 880 were recorded in 2015. In Government, 363 cases were recorded in 2014 while 564 were recorded in 2015,” he said.

Garba advised candidates to access their results on NECO website www.mynecoexam.com, using their Examination Registration Number and scratch cards.

JAMB Bows To Pressure As It Re-opens Portal for 48hrs for Registration Submissions Only

JAMB finally bows to pressure as it re-opens portal for 48hrs for registration submissions only. This may have been achieved by affected students, who protested at the JAMB offices across the country.

The Statement issued by the Board read thus:
"The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board hereby direct all candidates ‎who have initiated the process of registration for the 2016 UTME but ‎couldn’t upload and complete their registration process as at Friday 5th ‎February, 2016 to do so within 48 hours starting from 12 midnight on ‎Tuesday, 23rd February 2016 when the website will be opened to 12 midnight ‎on Thursday, 25th February, 2016 when the website will be closed.

"The Board wishes to state that the directive doesn’t cover fresh ‎registration but only those who had either done offline registration or ‎visited our website but could submit.

"The Board wishes to state that all arrangements for the 2016 UTME have been ‎completed and examination will commence as earlier stated.

"Candidates are also urged to print their examination slips for the schedules ‎of their date, venue, time allotted to them and other necessary information.‎"

2016 UTME UPDATE: JAMB Says “No Special Centre”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Sunday said it would not create any special centre for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the UTME, which will be Computer Base Test (CBT) mode all through, is expected to begin on Monday, February 29.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Information of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, and made available to NAN in Lagos.

According to the statement, the attention of the board was drawn to protests by some alleged prospective candidates in Edo and Lagos states over the closure of the board’s registration portal in preparation to the UTME.

“The board sincerely sympathises with the plight of these prospective candidates

“It is indeed the wish of the board that the Nigerian youth desirous of tertiary education are given ample opportunity to register for its examination.

“This is why it began the sale of its application document in August 2015, which is about seven months ago.

“In the advertisement for the sale of the registration documents, the board clearly stated that the sales would close by January.

“But due to public appeal it extended the registration process to February,” the statement read in part.

The board further stated that it could not allow candidates to register perpetually, adding that it had a time table and it adheres strictly to it.

It noted that this was to allow tertiary institutions to begin admission processes early.

“We all must work to enshrine the culture of discipline in the system and ensure that tertiary institutions calendars are not truncated.

“It is most unfortunate that some candidates waited until our website was withdrawn before making attempts to register,” the board stated.

It noted that every aspiring candidate was expected to know the procedure as proper publicity involving the media was done.

NAN reports that more than one million candidates have so far registered for the examination on the all CBT platform within and outside the country.

More than 500 centres were also accredited for the conduct of the examination within and outside Nigeria. (NAN)

JAMB ANNOUNCES UTME DATE

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board through its head of Public Relations, Dr. Fabian Benjamin in an exclusive interview with The Punch Newspaper has clearly stated that the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will begin on February 29.

Dr. Benjamin further stated that over one million candidates will sit for the examination, which the board said, would last for seven days. The board would also use about 500 internet-complaint centres in the country for the Computer-based Test.

The examination would hold in seven other centres outside Nigeria. The centres are: United Kingdom; Ghana; Cameroon; Republic of Benin; Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.

Candidates have been urged by the board to print their examination notification (which constitute their date, time and venue of examination) from Thursday, February 18, 2016 noting that it had completed arrangements for a smooth conduct of the test.

Candidates have been therefore advised to strictly adhere by these schedules, as there will be no rescheduling of any examination if a candidate misses his/her date or time of examination. Candidates are to be in their various centres 30 minutes before their time. He added.

JAMB Describes Institutions Change of Course fees, Illegal

JAMB (The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) through its Head of Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin in a chat with newsmen, has  described as illegal the amount of money charged by institutions as change of course fee.

According to him, once a candidate registers for UTME he/she automatically becomes an applicant in all the over 300 tertiary institutions in the country.

He further stressed that this was part of the reason JAMB made provision for one preferred university, one polytechnic and one college of education in their application forms so as to broaden their chances of securing admission at any level.

He stated that the board would not leave any stone unturned to conduct a hitch-free exam far better than the last edition, for they are fully prepared for this year's UTME.
