The Unifies Tertiary Examinations commenced Saturday with 1,589,175 candidates, who applied for the 2016 UTME.
Speaking to journalists while on an inspection tour of the CBTs Centres with the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Shade Yemi-Esan, the registrar, JAMB, Prof Dibu Ojerinde said, 72, 000 took the exam on Saturday, out of which 68,000 results were released that day.
He said the visually impaired would undertake the examination on the 7th -9th March, 2016.
According to Ojerinde, out of the 540 examination centres across the country, Kano has a large number of it especially in Kano town.
He said the federal government has mandated the National Communications Commission (NCC) to create at least, four new CBT centres, annually.
“National Communication Commission has been mandated to give us at least, four centres every year. Meanwhile, the first four are fully completed, the next four would soon be built and with time, every nook and crannies will have functional CBT centre,” the JAMB registrar said.
Responding after his tour of the Bwari CBTs Centre, Malam Adamu who said he was satisfied over the conduct of the CBT mode of the examination so far, expressed concerns over the fate of the candidates who are not computer literate. “I seem to be very comfortable and happy with what they are doing. But my question has not been answered that there may be people who are not computer literate.
