Prof. Victor Peretomode, the Vice Chancellor, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, on Saturday, said 24 students of the university bagged first class degree at it’s 10th Convocation.
The vice chancellor said this in his address at the convocation arena in Abraka.
He said a total of 5,811 students graduated under its Bachelor degree programmes in the 2014/2015 session of the university.
He added that 24 graduates got first class, 1,123 bagged second class upper, while 3,222 obtained second class lower division,
among others in the first degree programme.
He noted that the university in the session produced, 47 Ph.Ds, 431 Masters, 243 Post Graduate Diploma and 485 with Diploma certificates.
Peretomode said that the students were found worthy in both character and learning and enjoined them to explore the economic environment as good ambassadors of the university.
He commended Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta “for his continued support, especially for releasing the sum of N200 million for accreditation purposes.”
He said that the university had obtained 93 per cent accreditation for its programmes but called for improved funding to enable it to meet it’s infrastructure needs.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the best graduating first degree student, Mr Marcus Ifeanyi of Department of Mathematics bagged First Class Honours with 4.86 Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate (CGPA). (NAN)
