The South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Noh Kyu-duk, yesterday, disclosed that the embassy is poised to construct more junior and secondary schools across Abuja, in order to help in the development of education in the Federal Capital Territory.
Kyu-duk, who was speaking during a media briefing in Abuja, revealed that, though his country is interested in buying into the current policies of the present government, the urge to contribute to education in the nation’s capital’ his country, through the embassy, will construct schools.
“We are interested in reaching out to Nigeria, as we have been doing since 1991, mostly in the form of project aid in the areas of education, vocational training and e-Government.
“To name a few on-going projects, KOICA is building junior and senior secondary model schools in Abuja, in order to build capacity for e-governance, a vocational training centre in Lokoja, as well as a rice processing centre in Bida. While the schools will cost $8.56m, the vocational and rice processing centre will cost $150m.
“As Korean Ambassador, I am doing my best to foster the economic relations between our two countries. Thanks to the complimentary characteristics of our two economies, our annual trade volume exceeded the USD 4.4 billion in 2014, making Nigeria Korea’s 52nd largest export market and the 26th biggest import market. Korean companies’ presence in Nigeria has also increased and about 8,000 Nigerians are being employed by more than ten major Korean companies in the key business sectors such as oil and gas, electricity, trade, electronics and automobiles.
