Education Ministers, Mallam Adamu Adamu and Professor Anthony Gozie Anwukah are seeking partnership with the National Assembly to improve on the global ranking profile of Nigeria Universities.
They made the joint declaration at a meeting last weekend in Abuja with members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETfund led by Committee Chairman, Senator Binta Garba Masi.
According to the statement signed and addressed to LEADERSHIP, the deputy director, Press of the Federal Ministry of Education (FMoE), Bem Goong, Adamu described as unacceptable, the low ranking of Nigerian universities on the global varsity index, pointing out that no Nigerian university is ranked among the first 100 universities in the world.
He welcomed proposals from the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education to work with relevant stakeholders to uplift Nigerian universities to enable them compete favourably with other universities on the global ranking, promising that the change mantra of the Buhari Administration would impact positively on the country’s tertiary education system.
Earlier in her presentation at the meeting on behalf of her colleagues, Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETfund, Senator Binta Garba Masi told the ministers that the Senate Committee is organising a round table conference on Legislative Agenda for Tertiary Education in Nigeria.
